This year marks the 100th Anniversary of the Founding of the Communist Party of China. As the Party history education event gets underway, progress has been made in the event of "bringing tangible benefits to the public". China Southern is the world's first airline to provide "green flight" on-demand meal services. China Southern includes the "Essential Flight" program for green flight as one of the priority tasks to bring benefits to the public, contributing to the goals of "carbon neutrality and peak carbon dioxide emissions" and bluer skies, and providing more comfortable travel experiences.

China Southern's "Essential Flight" program aims to implement the concept of green development. Based on the characteristics of the aviation industry, China Southern taps the potential of technical fuel-saving measures for aircraft taxiing, take-off, landing, etc., steps up efforts to save fuel, cut emissions, and prevent pollution, minimizes the adverse effects of aircraft operating on the environment, and pursues its circular, and low-carbon development.

Under the "Essential Flight" program, China Southern has cut fuel consumption per ton-kilometer for two straight years and is an industry leader in terms of fuel-saving capability. This year, China Southern will launch the EFB (Electronic Flight Bag) pilot assistant system, which informs pilots of fuel-saving measures to be implemented before the flight, and the fuel savings made by each flight as well as the data of the fleet and company after the flight. It achieves targeted data-driven fuel-saving management and guides pilots to develop fuel-saving habits.

In 2019, China Southern was the world's first airline to launch "green flight" on-demand meal services in response to the national call for ecological progress. Passengers can choose the China Southern mileage award instead of the in-flight meal through the carrier's app, WeChat account, customer service hotline, and other channels six hours before departure. The "Green Flight" on-demand meal service is available on China Southern's domestic routes with meals with a flight time of 100-360 minutes and international short and medium-distance routes with meals departing from China. By May 31, 2021, China Southern had saved over 3 million helpings of meals.

On January 7, 2021, China Southern's "Green Flight" project was invited to participate in the first "Golden Key – China Sustainable Development Solution Awards" championships, and won the championship, becoming China's only civil aviation airline that entered the championships and won the big award.

On April 22, 2021, which was China Southern's 4th CSR Day, it released its CSR Report 2020 and announced that the Group will build its "Green Flight" brand. CHina Southern was the first in the industry to launch the "Green Journey" service and advocates low-carbon and simple travel. This is an act to implement the new vision of development and an innovative move to work towards the national goals of "carbon neutrality" and "peak carbon dioxide emissions".
